Here are some skills to Overcome Critical Thinking and to objectively reflect on an issue and decipher if it is supported by actual evidence.  You must use critical thinking to achieve any level of success.  Unfortunately, this is not a course you can take in school.  It should be taught though. 

Best to train yourself to take a situation and break it down into small parts and analyze it from every angle.    Critical thinking can also help you remove your limiting beliefs.

Tips for overcoming your limiting beliefs and becoming a critical thinker.


Empower yourself by challenging your issues.

Now that you have the ability to identify and understand the facts it allows you to build logical connections between concepts.

  • When a toddler places their hand on a hot stove they will quickly learn it hurts and to not touch a stove. But that same child won’t realize they should also avoid a hot The toddler lacks the knowledge and ability to draw inferences from his experiences other than what is immediately apparent.



Now the Realization that many of your thoughts aren’t your own.

How many thoughts do you have rolling around in your head that came from others?  While growing up you engulfed and adapted to the ideas of your older family members.  You also learned traditions, cultures, fighting styles and so much more.

Did you know that the average person has approximately 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day? Of those thousands of thoughts, 80% were negative, and 95% were exactly the same repetitive thoughts as the day before.  Now, do you feel like groundhog day?

  • Take a moment and think back to when you were a child. Was there a family member who was negative and always making discouraging comments about how bad life was and everyone in it? It’s a good chance that person’s remarks are still echoing in your subconscious, even today. 
  • Scientists call these contagious ideas “memes.” Memes have the power to travel from person to person through verbal communication.  We see memes being used on all the social sites and it is typically making fun of someone or something.
  • Consider racism. Numerous studies have shown that children under the age of three are completely accepting of each other. Racism is a learned behavior, a meme. 


Don’t let your own mind sabotage you.

 Remember your imagination is capable of creating any scenario, and fear has a tendency to make an event seem more likely than it really is causing fear and anxiety. 

Acknowledge your fears, but make sure it is based on facts and facts only.  Not your imagination or something you tell yourself.  If so, it’s helpful to consider that you have a 1 in 11 million chance of being involved in a plane crash. Irrational fears are sometimes beyond a person’s ability to rationalize them. Learn how to think critically and you’ll find that life makes a lot more sense. 


Don’t let your amazing mind of yours control you and your thoughts.  You have the skills now to thinking critically before making a rash decision.  Remember just the facts.
