Goal Setting for Entrepreneurs
We have all heard the term “Smart Goals”. Goal setting for entrepreneurs is not different than goal setting for CEOs. Everyone has different goals.
Make sure your goals are
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Timely
Let’s look at realistic. Do make your goal unattainable as you will only beat yourself up for not obtaining that goal. Keep in mind some goals look great on paper but are much more difficult to achieve. On the other hand, don’t make them so simple that you are guaranteed to reach them. Goals are meant to stretch you.
Take the time right now to dream BIG.
You can do it! Now be specific. I want to take a vacation is a wish – I want to take a vacation to Cancun in 11 months is a goal.
Consider your goal a destination. Sometimes this will help you move along but not be anxious if you are not attaining it. Goals that are unrealistic can actually hold you back because your subconscious already decided you can’t make it.
Set goals like I was to increase my savings by 10% that = $100 more per week. To use that same goal and say I want to increase my savings by $5,000 without breaking it down you will go several weeks, and you will still be wishing you were saving more.
Dream and dream often. Set weekly – monthly- yearly goals. Again, break it down and it makes it so much easier to attain. Many times, when you strive for even that 10% you achieve 20 -30% increase.
Goals for entrepreneurs don’t have to be just business. It can be family, organizations, personal and business. Goals help us improve personally daily. If you are not moving forward, you are moving backward.
